Arawana Beer Run - Naramata - Google Earth & Garmin GPS files plus full description

Post  Admin on Sun Nov 02, 2008 3:09 pm

I've posted a detailed overview of the Naramata Beer Run to encourage folks to ride it... which should have the side-effect of people being overtaken with an irresistible urge to kick in and clean it up...

The text in the link below is verbatim from a book I'm writing on the trails in the valley between OK Falls/Summerland and Apex Resort/The 201. You'll notice that I've also added a link to a Google Earth file. Install G.E., then click on the link and download the file - which will allow you to see Arawana Beer Run in "3-D"...

The 'chapter' on this run is in "BETA" stage, that is, far from being final edit (winter project). It does however get the point across - any tweaks in description are welcome. The first link is a Microsoft Word file, pretty-much everyone should be able to read it. If not, let me know and I'll post a text-only version (sans images). The second file is an actual Garmin GPS route file. Download it and copy it to your GPS - this will enable pin-point accuracy in locating and navigating the trail. The final file is a Google Earth .kmz file. Save and open it after you've installed Google Earth (www.earth.google.com). Its been color-coded by how steep the trail is, just to let you know what you've in for. The switch-back route is Arawana Rd. heading up, the more direct line is the trail down.

Questions? Problems downloading? Let me know...

I have a Magellan Triton. Not sure how to download the .kmz file onto it. Any suggestions?
If you want to add the Trails of Midway to your book let me know. Those are my home trails.
