The Peat Bog - Entering a new era...

Post  Admin on Thu Sep 18, 2014 11:22 pm

Andy K. and I are going to do some shuttle-riding in the Peat Bog area this Saturday (leaving my place at 10:30am) in order to fulfill the Trail Alliance's commitment to our new partnership agreement with the Ministry of Natural Resources.

They have asked us to examine, name and assess the Technical Trail Features (stunts) along CODE4, Knuckleduster and Pancho's.

This is the first and largest step forward in authorizing, signing and improving the area - and gaining the Ministry's blessings on rebuilding the zone into something grand!

Shuttle-roads are in amazing condition - care to join us?

CODE4

Post  Admin on Sat Sep 20, 2014 9:41 pm

Andy and I rode / inventoried CODE4 this afternoon - 52 stunts of one form or another - 99% of them so old and decrepit that there is no saving them...

- the direct result of building with unpeeled lodgepole pine, exacerbated by topping l.p. pine stringers with thin, split decking...

In reality, there are only two or three TTF's on the entire trail that are worth saving, and even then, some of those are nailed to live trees...

25 years in and the Bog still has a long way to go to reach maturity.

If anyone wants to help pitch in to create a carpenter-class jump-trail in the Mice, now is the time to speak up!  Our new partnership agreement with the Ministry of Forests and Natural Resources points the way forward, now all we need are dedicated individuals with basic woodworking skills to pitch in and lend a hand a few sessions per year.

Please, oh please, let it be the end of the line for building with materials like this:
